Our Boeing 727 BAX aircraft flight 705BX encountered severe weather over Alberta Canada. The aircraft was cruising at 35,000 feet
when it encountered tennis ball sized hail. The pictures below show some of the damage. All landing lights were destroyed, as was the radar.

This bit of news will no doubt be a big badge of honor for the few owners there are out there of the Volkswagen Touareg V10 TDI. VW is hoping the number of Touareg TDI owners will grow, and demonstrated the diesel ute's mighty pulling power recently in a press event that pitted it against the standing weight of a Boeing 747. The Touareg was "lightly modified" with the addition of 7,030 kg (15,498 lbs.) of ballast weight (!) and the fitment of the 4.56 axle from Touareg V8 model. The latter mod turned out to be unnecessary since the driver, Uew Krieghoff, performed the stunt in the low ratio, second gear. Other than that, the Touareg was also fitted with a special tow adapter to marry the two vehicles together and wore outer body panels that made it look the same as the next gen Touareg being launched early next year. The engine, transmission, suspension, tires and brakes were all stock.

Desperate Houswives The Game, is een nieuw computerspel gebaseerd op de serie. Het spel richt zich voornamelijk op vrouwen. In het spel ben je een huisvrouw die in de wijk komt wonen en alle sappige schandalen moet gaan uitzoeken. Als je van de Sims houdt, ga je waarschijnlijk dit spel ook prachtig vinden.
Het spel heb ik nog niet gespeeld, maar hopelijk is het development team van dit spel creatiever dan de teams die gadets voor vrouwen ontwikkelen.

In Parijs is het lichaam gevonden van een man die vermoedelijk uit het landingsgestel van een vliegtuig is gevallen. Een Franse boer trof de man maandagavond in zijn weiland aan, vlakbij de luchthaven van Roissy. Dat meldden de Franse media dinsdag.

Google Labs has launched Google Music Trends, a section of Google Trends tracking music listened to by users of Google Talk in iTunes, Winamp, Windows Media Player or Yahoo Music Engine. It’s an opt-in system that tracks both individually and in aggregate. The listings and search results are all accompanied by opportunities to purchase music. Google Trends was launched in May, along with the other projects like the Google Notebook and Google Co-op.
Recommendations seem likely in the future and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Google take Music Trends beyond Google Talk and challenge the business models of companies like Pandora, Last.fm, MyStrands and others. Just today we saw another calender company drop out of the running, with the entry of Google Calendar widely cited as a factor. Users cannot currently listen to music directly through Google Music Trends.

Een Brits vliegtuig met 217 passagiers is halverwege de vlucht naar New York teruggekeerd naar Londen omdat een mobieltje rinkelde. Niemand van de passagiers meldde zich als eigenaar van de gsm, aldus een woordvoerster van de betrokken luchtvaartmaatschappij British Airways (BA) maandag.

Mark Parker and Steve Jobs, CEOs of Nike and Apple, announced the first collaboration between the two companies.
Nike Plus is a technology that allows runner’s shoes to communicate with their iPod Nanos. The Nike+iPod Sport kit consists of a small oval pod that you insert under the liner of your shoe (much like a SIM card), and a small transmitter that attaches to your Nano. The kit will cost $29.
The software tracks the usual data like time and distance, and includes a voice over, much like the nav system in your car, which communicates the details. The training and inspiration mixes offer advice as well. Nike’s lined up Lance Armstrong and Paula Radcliffe (who holds the women’s marathon record) among others, to share their favorite music and provide their inspiration while you train.

NASA plans to crash a space probe into the moon in 2009 -- a collision so violent it will be visible on Earth through a telescope, the space agency said Monday.

On March 12, 2006, Doyle contacted a 14-year-old girl whose profile was posted on the Internet, and initiated a sexually explicit conversation with her. The girl was actually an undercover Polk County Sheriff s Computer Crimes detective. Doyle knew that the girl was 14 years old, and he told her who he was and that he worked for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. During future online chats, Doyle gave the undercover detective posing as a 14-year-old girl his office phone number and his government-issued cell phone number, so that they could have telephone conversations, in addition to their online chatting. Doyle used the Internet to send hard-core pornographic movie clips to the girl and used the AOL Instant Messenger chat service to have explicit sexual conversations with her. The investigation revealed that the phone numbers given to the detective were in fact Doyle s, and that the AOL account used was registered to Doyle. Doyle also sent photos of himself to the detective, which were not sexually explicit but did serve to further positively identify him.

The horseshoe-shaped walkway, scheduled to open later this year, will jut out seventy feet off the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, suspending its occupants about 4,000 feet above the ground (about thrice the height of the Sears Tower) as they stand on a glass floor, looking down. The walkway's walls will be comprised of the same four-inch-thick glass as the floor, which will leave the spectacular view relatively unobstructed, even for those people who opt to remain on all fours.

Mobile phone searchers are much more likely to be hunting down porn than desktop surfers. "What appealed was the bizarreness of the idea," says Edward Cussler of the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, who led the experiment. It's a question that also fascinated his student Brian Gettelfinger, a competitive swimmer who narrowly missed out on a place at this summer's Olympic Games in Athens.
Cussler and Gettelfinger took more than 300 kilograms of guar gum, an edible thickening agent found in salad dressings, ice cream and shampoo, and dumped it into a 25-metre swimming pool, creating a gloopy liquid twice as thick as water. "It looked like snot," says Cussler.

Sleep researchers at the Loughborough University in Britain did several tests on fatigued drivers to compare the effects of different methods for a driver can use to stay awake. They put the volunteers in driving simulators while they were sleepy and let them drive. Last weekend, a piece on kottke.org (50 Fun Things to Do With Your iPod) was featured on Digg and Slashdot[1] and the experience left behind some data that presents a interesting comparison to the Alexa data.

It’s made every other top 100 list out there, receives numerous awards, is quoted in major newspapers around the world on a weekly basis, has a PageRank of 7 and currently makes about 2,000$/month. Though, with the traffic it was, there’s no reason it couldn’t make 2-3 times that.

Alex Tew, is er in geslaagd ruim 1 miljoen dollar te verdienen met de verkoop van advertentieruimte per pixel. Op zijn inmiddels wereldberoemde milliondollarhomepage.com waren al 999.000 pixels gereserveerd voor 1 dollar per stuk. De laatste duizend pixels zijn verkocht op veilingsite eBay. Tew opende de internetpagina eind augustus om zijn studie te kunnen betalen. Het idee kreeg zoveel aandacht dat het bezoekersaantal opliep tot een half miljoen per dag. De student staakte de verkoop op oudejaarsdag en opende de veiling een dag later. Het hoogste bod voor de laatste advertentieruimte was 32.813 euro.
