Here's a nice little piece of concept art that's both functional and pleasing to the eye, which is a bit of a rarity. Dubbed the Microwave Vase by designer Woo Seokmoon, it's a combination microwave and vase that's supposedly going to be all the rage with those young urban professionals out there. In its default setting, the Microwave Vase looks like nothing more than a regular vase; once food is placed inside and the top knob is adjusted for time, then it becomes an actual microwave, cooking your food in a heartbeat. When the food is finished, the little green leaf on top lights up to let you know that your meal is ready. Wasn't this an accessory in the The Sims? (Hint: Check inside to see what it looks like as just an everyday vase.)

n addition to your own 15.4-inch LCD, the service has seats that come with their own iPod connector so geeks like me can keep their player juiced on those long inter-continental flights. Once you get sick of your iPod, you can sample up to 50 XM Radio channels free of charge using the complimentary noise-canceling cans. There's even a universal power plug for your laptop. Ironically, my favorite feature has nothing to do with tech. Instead it's the seat, which transforms into a 6-foot, 6-inch bed. Finally a bed big enough for us tall folks

This flirtatious, gyrating, portable, 8-inch, bikini-clad blonde poledancer brings a smile and some festive cheer to both the home and office with her cheeky dance routine. She's lit up as though she was in a proper club. Apparently. You can even plug her into your PC audio outlet and she'll dance to your own MP3s and other downloads. And of course, you don't have to throw any money. Which is what can happen. Apparently.

the $1.25 million Maverick Solo Jet, the world's fastest tin can in the air for mere mortals, zipping along at a 472-knot clip. For the rest of us, that's a speedy 543mph, or Mach .82 for the gearheads. Social climbers will like its 8000 foot-per-minute climb rate, also faster than any other personal jet. Too bad it only holds five people, so with Captain Lam at the helm, only four of us other Gizmodo dweebs will be able to go along for the ride. But when something goes wrong, that optional full airplane parachute can bring us safely back to earth to blog another day.

We've seen USB slippers before, but this one's special in two ways. One, they're more like booties and cover your entire foot, plus your ankles. No part of your foot will be exposed to the elements. Second, they come with a bear attachment. OMGWTFBBQ bear attachment! This is the best thing we've ever seen.

Feels like everyone's mounting their flat panels on their walls these days, so what better way to one-up your neighbor than with this wall-mountable fireplace. The fireplace's creators (West Country Fires) claim it automatically cleans up after itself so you don't have to worry about any harmful gases filling up your apartment. At $2,500 dollars, it's a little too close to the price of a real plasma, no matter how many "burn-in" jokes you can get out of it.

If you're looking for a minor practical joke to play on your family over the Thanksgiving holiday or are searching for something fun do do when you're off work on Friday but are strung out on turkey and stuffing, look no further than this rockin' apple mod. Our pals at Instructables have put together a series of steps on how to build a USB-powered apple (Apple Computer optional) that will vibrate when someone tries to reach for it, and will stop when the person backs away. This mod doesn't appear all that difficult, but you'll need to get a "capacitance sensor chip," some copper foil, a vibrating motor and a few other things. Still, if you know your way around a circuit board and a soldering iron, you could probably put this together in an hour or two with no problem -- that is, assuming all the apples in the house haven't already been turned into apple pie.

the design is pretty interesting. You turn the duck/radio on and off by twisting its head. An AM/FM switch is on the wing, and stations are adjusted by twisting the tail. The unit runs off 3 AAA batteries and apparently lacks an antenna. Sure, it's no Duck Fadar, and I'd prefer it in basically any color than lavender, but I'd still waste a hard-earned $3.99 on one just to tell people, "Hey, I've got a duck with a freakin' radio inside!"

eko, a design studio out of Russia, created/dug up this stone mouse. MAKE believes the stone pieces were cut and then glued to a shell, which while probably the case, disappoints our fantasy of using the mouse while munching a pterodactyl wing. Against the creamish background the mouse doesn't appear very attractive. But on a nice desk in a corporate setting, I think it could be pretty classy. Retro classy.

While adaptive cruise control has become somewhat commonplace in higher-end automobiles, that technology simply keeps you from resetting your speed every time the cabbie in front of you eases on and off the accelerator; Siemens' traffic sign recognition system boasts a camera attached to an internal computer which automatically recognizes common road signs and displays an alert in the driver's heads-up display. Not only will the driver see a digital rendition of the sign without taking his / her eyes too far off the road, but he / she will have the option of enabling the vehicle to dynamically adapt to changes in speed limits, theoretically eliminating any previously valid excuse you could give the boys in blue once pulled over.

The FlexFix system is essentially a drawer that can be pulled out from the car's rear bumper. On it are two wheel-mount bike racks, an extra rear license plate, and supplemental brake lights. When not in use, you wouldn't even know the system was there if not for the drawer cutout. It's the kind of killer innovation that's been sorely lacking from the American automakers for some time. As we move ever closer to the driverless car, Mobileye takes a step backward with its automatic warning system (AWS), a color-coded indicator that mounts on your dashboard. Its eye is actually a small video camera mounted to the rear view mirror, and its image processor, called the EyeQ, calculates the distance between your car and the one in front of you, giving you an audible and visual warning if you get too close. It also lets you know if you drift out of your lane, but is deactivated if you turn on the car's turn signal.

This art project by Sascha Pohflepp combines a Sony Ericsson k750i with a black case to let you take other people's pictures. The design works by recording what time you click the button to "take" a picture, then later on connects to the internet to scope out shots other people took with that same timestamp. It takes a few hours/days for people to upload their pictures, so you won't be seeing anything instantly. But it's kind of neat, in a voyeuristic way, to what other people were up to when you were out being a dork using a camera that doesn't really work.

A long time ago in a bath far, far away the Duck Side (or Dark Side in a Scottish accent) lurked, or possibly bobbed, though that doesn't sound quite as threatening somehow. Ominously glowing in the duck, sorry dark, Duck Fader is 'eider' the Evil Lord, or far more likely just a ludicrous glowing bath toy (he 'muscovy' something like that anyway). So next time you find yourself attracted to the bathside, make sure that you have Duck Fader to guide you. Many have attempted to create a virtual mobile PC, but this is the first time I've seen one that works. MojoPac lets you install PC apps onto damn near any mobile drive, plug it into a host machine running Windows XP and run your desktop as an overlay. I saw it working from an iPod and several kinds of external HDs, but the client footprint is small enough that you could even put it on a cellphone. Along with running the basic Office suite, you can install games and even Skype, all of it using the connectivity of the underlying PC. A menu bar across the top of the screen lets you switch between desktops with a click.

Seitz Roundshot D3: it's a 360-degree cam that'll capture 470 million pixels worth of color and light, and furthermore, will complete that task in two seconds -- less than the amount of time it's taken you to read half of this paragraph. Like the 6x17, the Roundshot D3 has a ISO range from 500 to 10,000, accepts lenses from 24mm to 250mm and comes with a maxed out Mac mini to act as its oversized flash card. The D3 is more expensive than the 6x17, however, with the mobile version taking a sizeable 46,900 francs ($37,463) from that numbered Swiss bank account of yours, while the studio version comes in at 43,700 Swiss francs ($34,906). In either case, you'll probably want to head over to the Seitz site to get in line to pre-order this bad boy, which is due to hit the streets of Geneva by early 2007

As expected, Microsoft is busting out the Zune today, and we've got the rundown. Not a lot of surprises in the specs department, but they've confirmed the basics we've known for a while, like WiFi, 30GB of HDD, built-in FM, a 3-inch screen and the basic music, pictures and video playback. They also finally let slip the screen res -- an unsurprising QVGA -- and some better news on the codec front: the Zune supports h.264, MP3, AAC and WMA. As for ballyhoo, wireless Zune-to-Zune sharing is where the real action is at, and it works pretty much like we've been hearing: you can share a full-length track with a friend, and they've got three times to listen to it over a three day period, after which they can flag the song for purchase on the Zune Marketplace -- unless they're an unlimited "Zune Pass" subscriber, of course.

This design concept by Jess Griffin and Jim Termeer is a cutting board with an embedded scale in a circular area on its right half, telling you the exact weight of those ingredients you're about to place into your recipe or on your plate. The 10"x15" cutting board is designed to use electronic ink to display weight, with embedded sensor grids underneath the surface to determine the downward force of objects placed on it. Don't be getting out that credit card just yet; the designers say the technology to build the thing is between one and five years away.

f you think video conferencing is reserved for stale meetings that serve little purpose aside from burning up your time, Airhockey Over a Distance aims to ice that perspective. The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) created the table (or should we say, "tables") to showcase the "power of advanced networking" and joins a host of other wild ways to get your game on. The table plays like your average air hockey match, except the opponent's half is in another location, and replacing your ferocious counterpart is a screen with a live video feed of him / her and a fancy puck-ejecting system. Sensors at the midway point of the table detect the angle, speed, and trajectory of the not-exactly-oncoming puck, and instructs the mechanism how and where to fire the disc -- you slap it back, and the same sequence happens on your compadre's end. Because this was crafted solely to show the wonders of "computer-mediated human-to-human interaction," there's currently no plans to take this prototype into sports bars or internet cafés, but one question still remains: what happens if the puck gets hung at center ice?

This little white ball may look like an ordinary clock but, let us tell you, this thing is anything but ordinary. Turn it around and you can see what sets it apart from its brethren -- an air purifier and multi-colored LED lights, all powered via good 'ol USB. We don't really know how good the air purifier part works as it's only a $32-powered USB device, afterall, but if you need a clock/calender on your desk, why not peep this thing? We're sure your computer room/cubical could use a little freshening up, plus the multi-colored LEDs are sure to liven up the place a bit. USB Geek claims that it can clean-up the air out of a nine square meter room, and who are we to doubt the same people that brought us our favorite USB mini paper shredder?

Here's yet another USB device to clutter up your desktop, but this one from Evergreen attempts to consolidate numerous functions into its whimsical egg-shaped design. It's a pair of speakers, a card reader and a USB 2.0 hub, giving you not-exactly-rocking tunes with 2 watts per channel, a card reader that can handle SD, CompactFlash and Media Stick, and then a USB hub with two ports.

Mitsubishi Electric has completed construction of the world’s largest high-definition video screen at a horse track in Tokyo. The screen employs Mitsubishi’s Aurora Vision LED technology and measures 11.2 meters (37 feet) x 66.4 meters (218 feet), giving it a surface area of 744 square meters (8,000+ square feet), or the equivalent of 3 tennis courts. Mitsubishi manufactured the screen for the Japan Racing Association (JRA) at its Nagasaki factory in the town of Togitsu, Nagasaki prefecture. The screen was divided into 35 pieces for delivery to the Tokyo Racecourse in Fuchu, Tokyo.

The patent pending Magic Message Mirror is a very unique product that adds fun, entertainment and functionality to your home automation / security system. As the name indicates this device not only looks and functions like a 16:9 (oriented in portrait mode), 30" diagonal decorative mirror it also has another concealed purpose. When your home automation / security system senses a change in your environment, the character within the mirror theatrically appears and notifies you of the change. Once notified you may choose to directly view a camera feed on the stealthy monitor. Note that you can update the mirror's frame so that it seamlessly matches your décor.

Eleksen has finally released its wireless fabric keyboard for mobile devices, including the BlackBerry. The keyboard will initially be available through the company's certified resellers and directly to Conglom-O-sized companies for about $73. The Bluetooth keyboard weighs only 2.3 ounces and is the size of most laptop keyboard once fully unrolled. The touch-sensitive cloth is water resistant: it probably won't survive a prolonged trip deep underwater, but it should be OK if you accidentally spill some water on it.

We all miss album cover art work, and the tiny digital cover art on your iPod just isn't the same. English designer, Michael Kennedy has the answer that makes retro meet modern in a funked up way. I-Deck is a touch screen music player that revitalizes album art and user interaction, that has been lost in current mp3 format. You simply doc your mp3 player into the base and use the touch screen to cycle through and select your tracks, flick it to skip, spin it to fast-forward and turn it to play. Then sit back and watch the album art play. From Nirvana nude baby floating thru to Madonna in a leotard, album art is back in vogue.

Despite its ability to fold away, its sturdy frame and steady base provide a stable surface for fast-action play, and the table is cordless, allowing it to be used anywhere. A rechargeable battery powers the regulation-sized game table for a full two hours per charge; it can also be operated while plugged in for times when power is available and longer game-time is required. The quiet, powerful internal fan keeps the pucks and mallets gliding smoothly across the 6'-long table while aluminum rails allow rapid game play and lightning fast rebounding. The integrated automatic score bo x uses infrared sensors to track goals, and has an easy-to-read display. So you've got your shiny, not-quite-new DeLorean fresh off eBay but still don't think it gives you enough geek cred? Well, you can do what Ryan Brandys did and turn it into a driveable drive-in movie theater with the help of a Mac Mini, a projector, and a bucketload of skill. Ok, just putting a Mac Mini and a projector in a car doesn't really require much skill, but this dude totally pimped it out, installing actuators that open the hood with a push of a button, revealing the 37-inch projector screen mounted under the hood that puts all other in-car movie-watching solutions to shame. He also created custom fiberglass enclosures to keep everything looking pretty, designed a custom Mac Mini dock, and created the Basic Stamp "Brain Box," which makes everything work together. He hasn't, however, tricked out his car to look like the Back to the Future DeLorean but, really, wouldn't you just as soon have this? Bron: Engadget

College boys will no longer be able to sneak a peek of roommate sideboob through the $5 living room divider with the new flexible electronic curtain from Micro Reactor System Co. Transferring digital files between disparate hardware no longer has to be such a chore thanks to a new Mass Storage- and Picture Transfer Protocol-compliant offering from Sima Products called Hitch (model USB-101), which lets you connect nearly any digital camera, DAP, PMP, or flash drive with a USB connection and send single files or entire albums to a like device. Once both products are hooked up, you simply need to choose what you want to send and where you want it to go using Hitch's 2.5-inch backlit black and white screen, and your digital swag starts zipping between devices at USB 2.0 speeds (or USB 1.1, if your gear is a bit pokier). You'll be able to pick one of these up -- DRM-compliance and all -- later this month for about $150.

Dutch designer Damian O’Sullivan, has found a way to bring sunlight indoors with his Solar Lampion. The ingenuous lamp is composed of 36 standard-sized solar cells that collect sunlight during the day, and then shine at night. What we love about the Solar Lampion is that through simple geometric arrangement, it manages to transform something that is usually so bulky and ugly (solar panels) into a charming sculptural object. The fact that it is practical and energy efficient only makes it that much better. While it’s durable enough to keep outside - the Solar Lampion is so cute that we think you’ll want to bring it indoors to light up your summer nights.

The iPod Concerto Table is for those rich but untalented folk who like pianos but have no idea how to play them. This design concept by Lovegrove and Respucci, displayed at one of the Apple stores in New York (not The One on Fifth Avenue) last weekend, is shaped like a piano and has a dock for your iPod and a couple of amplified speakers flush-mounted underneath the lid. Sorry Apple, looks like this time you’re the one copying Microsoft. Your iPod Sport Kit? Microsoft Research did it already. The MPTrain is a personal trainer using both hardware and software to do pretty much the same thing your Sport Kit does. The cellphone interface keeps track of your speed, distance, workout time, heart-rate, and calories burned. It can even select music with different attributes to make the user speed up or slow down, depending on their current exercise regime. We know, we know, Microsoft’s solution is more technical and less user friendly than the iPod and Nike product. That’s your whole schtick, to make technology easier to use. But we’re just pointing out that Microsoft got there first, and you just made it better. There’s room for both of you after all.

Looking for an MP3 player and you are open to units other than the iPod? I doubt any of these units will be iPod killers (that silly term their marketing departments continue to use), but they do offer a lot of features not (yet) found on an iPod. As we said before, individually there is no such thing as an iPod killer, but together these players can slowly chip away at Apple's market share. That's making the assumption that the iPod's ability to sell three out of every four players is not sustainable. iTunes does lock a lot of users into Apple's DRM format, so it may be a really slow chipping away.

SmartDisk, not to be confused with its rival DumbDisk, is releasing the FireLite XPress series of hard drives in June. Now, what does this mean and why should you care? Primarily, the palm-sized hard drive features an LCD on the front that displays that unit’s remaining capacity even when it’s not plugged in. Yes, quite revolutionary indeed. SmartDisk will release the drive with two capacities, a 60GB version fro $199 and a 120GB version for $299, both compatible with Windows XP and Mac OS X right out of the box. Whether or not the LCD justifies that sort of price tag remains to be seen, but rest assured that at least you’ll always be aware of how much space you have left for "Linux distros," since that’s what you torrent all day long.

They accomplish that by splitting the keyboard and making the right half into a full fledged mouse. Your merely switch up your grip and the mouse function automatically springs into action. Is there anything more luxurious in your bath than a towel warmer? How about a towel warmer that's also a television? Granted, these two features have nothing to do with one another - but who cares? The Myson Aquavision Mirrored TV Towel Warmers even has (as the name suggests) a mirror - which means it can provide you with entertainment enough for a a long soak in tub, a mirror to see how wrinkled you've gotten once you've finished, and then a nice, warm towel to wrap around your pink and puckered self.

We'll sit on a good sofa over a great armchair any day, but we’d definitely make an exception for the Bibliochaise, literally an armchair library for those who like to be "immersed in deep reading". It can shelve five linear meters worth of books, so the question is would you put the books you love into it, or the books that look best?

The Amadana Cooking Timer is available in white or black, and shows you little pieces falling down that kinda remind us of Tetris, but not exactly. This is more like an hourglass than Tetris, and when the variously-shaped blocks fill up the display, your time is up. If that doesn’t float your boat, the timer can show you a traditional numeric countdown display, too.

The Flashbag is a USB flash drive that will inflate as it fills up with data. Now you may be asking why a gadget like this would be useful. Well, it really isn’t, but it is definitely cool and an innovative USB flash drive design, which is pretty rare nowadays. The Flashbag is only a concept right now but the designer, Dima Komissarov, has a patent pending on this device, so hopefully a company will pick it up soon. When swithched off the flashbag remains pumped up, so you can estimate with the naked eye how much more pics, books and music albums can be transferred into it.

Inspired by classic platform-esque games such as Super Mario Bros. and Pitall, Victor Szilagyi and Tristam Sparks have designed and built xBlocks. It uses traditional game controllers and two players will control characters and navigate them throughout the 3D maze. Szilagyi and Sparks designed this for the Mattel Design Challenge 2005 for the Interaction Design Institute Ivrea in Milano. This project can be seen at Salone del Mobile 2006 at Fabbrica del Vapore in Milano.

We love the elegance of Jeremy Walton’s paraffin candle with its 40 hours of burning time and built-in matchbox so much that we hesitate to tell you about the stereotypical Maxim/FHM-reading guy we used to go out with whom this would be a perfect gift for, if only it also had a drawer for condoms and lube, played Marvin Gaye when you lit the wick.

The Connection Glass was born out of two things product designer Priscilla Bernikowicz realized about bars: 1) that they’re terrible places to meet people, because the noise prevents you from hearing what anyone is saying, and 2) that people clutch their glasses like security blankets. So the Connection Glass is kind of like Dodgeball except not on your cellphone, in that it tells you who is in your vicinity and lets you look at their profiles and send messages. You can exchange details with someone you find interesting by clinking your glasses together.

This stylish looking mat is really just the phrase 'welcome' encoded in binary. So, in a way, it's a dual purpose device. Your UPS delivery guy is going to think it's just a cool, funky, retro pattern. And he'll be right. The iUpload converts and transfers music from a regular CD to your iPod in MP3 format. You’ll surely appreciate this innovation. After all, don’t you find it weird that you have to have a bulky device like a desktop or a laptop just to transfer a very small file into an equally tiny device? This device from Zettabyte will also save you from using all your ten fingers when changing or revising your playlist as everything is automatic. Song-tagging is not a manual exercise anymore as it is already directly done through an Internet link.

The Guinness Widget is a neat feat of engineering and it does pour a halfway decent pint from a can, compared to what you’d get from a keg at a pub, but if you live in the UK you have another option as of this month. The Guinness Surger is a electrical device with a small metal plate on it; you pour a little water onto the plate, put a pint of the special Guinness Draught Surger Beer in place and then turn the power on, sending ultrasonic pulses up through the beer to create the creamy head we all know and love. If that sounds incredible, you really need to watch the video and see it in action, it really is amazing to see in action.

Ron Patrick wanted a VW Beetle with a jet engine (hey, who doesn't?). But he also wanted to be able to drive it on the open road, rather than just on a closed airport runway surrounded by fire engines and EMT crews. His solution? So we managed to get our hands on a Samsung Q1 / Origami device set to roll tomorrow here at CeBIT. Don't ask how, but it'll be awhile before we recover from the brutal caning we just received. From the five minutes we spent with it we can tell you, well, it’s an XP Tablet PC with a 7-inch display. Sorry, that’s about it, nothing earth-shattering here folks. In fact, for all the hype, it’s hard to find anything revolutionary or even evolutionary in the hardware specs or loaded software (perhaps that will come when the price is announced). Sure, Samsung did call it a prototype unit, but as the final prototype prior to manufacture we're told not much will change besides a "brighter TFT LCD."

Humans have been consuming coffee for 1200 years, the first coffee shops opened 500 years ago and coffee is the world’s second largest traded commodity, behind only oil. More than 1.5 billion cups of coffee are consumed every day with the US market for coffee machines at 20 million a year and growing. You’d think we would have already perfected the best way to produce a cup of coffee from coffee beans, but several years of research by Stanford University mechanical engineering lecturer Alan Adler (the inventor of the Aerobie flying disk which holds the world throwing record of more than a quarter mile) appear to have found a better coffee machine. Independent reviews suggest the new Aerobie AeroPress delivers the smoothest, richest, purest and fastest cup of coffee (under 30 seconds) you’re likely to find and the bonus is that the AeroPress costs just US$30
